Why use us for stripping your doors?

To begin with, we can collect your doors at a time that suits you. This includes evenings & weekends. Secondly, we remove the doors & replace them…& this includes large storm doors. It doesn’t matter if you have a basement flat in Glasgow or you’re on the top floor of a tenement in Edinburgh…we do all of the lifting! If the screws are a bit on the old side, we can also replace them. Once we have the doors in our workshop, we will immerse the doors in a heated solution. This reacts chemically with paint resins and pigments to dissolve them from the most intricate carved areas, mouldings and seams. After stripping, they are steam washed and neutralised, then placed in a dehumidified area for drying.

After the process has finished, you’ll see freshly stripped doors back to their original glory, the true colour of the wood and the beautiful grain. The stripped doors can then be oiled, waxed, stained or re-painted. Lastly…the price. We believe the quality of our service is more important than price. However, we don’t believe you’ll be able to find a like-for-like service at a better price.

Just had our 180 year old pair of outer Storm Doors taken down, removed, stripped of layers upon layers of ancient paint, returned and refitted- and all within 4 days. This is an amazing level of service by any standard. The doors look great- and they fit/ can be locked for the first time in 23 years! Besides, Martyn is a friendly, resourceful and determined expert who overcame removal of “the most painted-in and reluctant hinges encountered in his 30 years of experience”! Door Refurbishment:
Stained Glass Panels

We can also refurbish a wooden door by creating & fitting a custom-made, stained glass panel.

This can be done in a couple of ways:

if your door already has a glass panel or panels, these can be simply replaced with a new stained glass design.
if your door has a solid wooden panel or panels, this can be removed & replaced with a stained glass panel.

These refurbishments can be carried out on any kind of door e.g. storm door, front door, internal door, bathroom door. If you would like to discuss adding a stained glass panel to any wooden door, please mention this when requesting a quotation for stripping your doors.
